Thinking and Working Smarter, learning how to say no to projects not in your skill set

There are a lot of people who will make a great impression on the boss and they get more projects to do, because they know how to get the job done and on time. However, there are times where you are going to find projects that do not fit into your skill range. You will find that it is so hard to say no, but you have to realize that there are so many things that can do wrong. You might end up ruining your career.

First, you have to look at your image. You don't take anything that you don't feel confident about. You will notice that the reason why they like to give you projects is because you know how to do things, what to do, and do it proficiently on time. If you don't know how to do something, that will ruin the image that they have of you. If you don't get it done on time because you aren't qualified to do it, you will want to tell them that because it won't get done on time. To tell them how no, you will just want to explain your credentials and explain what you would need to do to get the job done. If they still want you to do it, and then just explain to them that you will need to have a team to help you out so that you can have all the skills needed to get the job done.

Now there are lots of people who just have a hard time saying no, however, if you don't just say no, you'll find that the boss will take it better. Explain your reasoning behind everything so that you can still keep your good reputation. You will want to make sure that you are prepared for everything, but if you are getting projects that are out of your league, you should not feel forced to take them. If you only tell your feelings to your boss, you both will be able to understand one another. When you communicate your concerns, you will notice that your boss will begin to look at your better. They will begin to see that you are reasonable person, and you might be able to get a promotion because of your ability to stand up for yourself and for the company.

When you are explaining your reasons for why you can't take on a new project you should always talk about the company's goodness. You will want to tell the boss that everything that you do reflects on the company. If you don't feel good about something, the company might want to give it a second thought as to who can make the company look better. This is a way to get across that it's not a personal thing, but you just are unable to do. You will also seem more like a team worker and that is exactly what every company wants from their workers. They want them to think about their future and the future of the company.

It is very important that you stand up for yourself, because you never know how it may affect you. You'll find that if you take the opportunity to stand up for yourself and the good image of the company they won't even give the situation a moment's waste and they will take you off the project and give you something more in your range. However, they may just want you because you are a good worker and leader. If you tell someone how you feel, they will give you all the help that you need and things will work out, however, you should never take on anything alone if you have no idea what to do. You shouldn't allow your work to be stressful for you.
