The NCAA as a Business

The NCAA stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. According to their website the NCAA is a group of volunteers that help to regulate the college sports being played at colleges across the country. The NCAA works to protect a college team and its players from a number of potential problems. Sometimes the NCAA has been referred to as a business; however, in reality is really is not one.

Although the NCAA is not officially a business it does not mean that it does not benefit players, coaches, and colleges. The NCAA logo and trademark has been increasing the sale of a large amount of college merchandise. It is not uncommon for a popular NCAA basketball player to have a copy of their jersey being sold. It is highly likely that the jersey will have an NCAA logo it.

The NCAA may also help to increase the expose that a particular player may get. The National Collegiate Athletic Association often works with local communities and other areas to increase the fan following of many sports teams. It is often done through community involvement. When a community takes pride in their local college teams it is likely that their self-esteem will rise and so may their performance.

In addition to having the community involved in a sports team, it is likely that the National Collegiate Athletic Association will try and get their players involved in the community as well. It is not uncommon for a number of college athletes or a whole team to volunteer in the community.

College sports is a tough world especially for many players who wish to play professional sports when they graduate. It is not uncommon for a number of professional sports teams to be watching a particular player. Some of the professional sports that may use scouts to rate and assess the skills of a particular player may include basketball, baseball, soccer, and football. A scout will often travel and watch a particular player play the game and them possibly meet with them afterwards.

The majority of college athletes are honest and reliable; however, there are some players and teams that many need extra protection from the NCAA. The National Collegiate Athletic Association has strict rules and regulations on players receiving merchandise from other individuals, businesses, potential sponsors, or professional teams. It is not uncommon for a business to offer a college player money or merchandise for agreeing to endorse their products or services in the future.

College athletes who are found accepting money, free merchandise, or free services from businesses or professional team representatives are at risk for serious penalties. The majority of players may be required to return the money or merchandise; however, players may also be suspended or completely kicked off a college team. The severity of the punishment will likely depend on the history of the player and the amount of money or merchandise that they wrongfully accepted.

The NCAA is an organization that may in a way act as a business; however, the goal of the National Collegiate Association is to work in the best interest of the players and the teams. They have successfully been doing so for a number of years now.
