The Importance Of Layout

"If you hand a person a custom business card youre handing them a first look at you and your company. Youre handing them something theyre going to carry around with them. Next time they need a service you offer theyre going to pull that business card out and once again take a look at it.

Given all the significance a business card has its very important to make sure yours is as good as it can possibly be. Often times what can appear to be some of the most meaningless elements have a profound impact on a person looking at your business card.
You should put serious consideration to the layout of your card. People often have the urge to make their layout fancier in some way. You want yours to stand out from everyone elses and so you think about altering different key factors in order to do so.
This can sometimes work against you if you dont understand what can hurt the look of a card.

Fonts: There are a lot of fonts to choose from. Why use simple Times New Roman when you can spice it up with a unique font? Maybe you can make your name on the card a different font than your business name and contact information to give it more emphasis.
The problem with all of these is the risks you take at making your business card look messy. Itll be eye grabbing, sure, but for all the wrong reasons. Too many font types can make a card feel cluttered and lose that very professional feel they should maintain.

Colors: Obviously a full color business card is going to be more memorable than a black and white one, so why not use a whole plethora of colors?

Just like with fonts you want to be careful about turning a person off by adding too many different elements to your card. Adding color is certainly a nice touch, and can do a lot to make a card more memorable, but only when used in the proper form. Pick one or two colors at most, and only use them just enough to place emphasis.

Spacing: You have all the space on your card, so why not space out your companies name across as much of it as possible?

You dont want a person to feel like the card looks cluttered and full of words. A small, simple logo and company name in the middle of the card can be just as eye catching as large letters spread across the full card. Getting a custom business card doesnt mean you need to do away with all conventions because its meant to be unique.

Proper business card printing can be a very difficult thing to get right if you dont know all of the reasons why the good business cards work. Take the time to study other cards and what elements you really like in them. I think youll come to realize how powerful a good layout can really be.
