Colombia fulfilled a dream nurtured for decades when the country's athlete Maria Isabel Urrutia won the gold medal in the Summer Olympic Games of Sydney 2000. Colombia, from Cali to Manizales, celebrated its first ever Olympic title. She also became the first Colombian woman to win an Olympic gold medal. She was born on March 25, 1965, in Candelaria, Valle del Cauca.
