Most people think you need a whole load of equipment for a trek. If you're trekking close to home, most people bring the bear minimum as you are in walking distance from home and, lets face it, most people do not want to carry more stuff than is needed. Trekking abroad is a different question, as you are not in arms reach of all your equipment.
