A federal government has many responsibilities to the land and people that it represents. These responsibilities are one of the main things that comes under constant reconsideration as members of various government offices and elected officials have new and often opposing visions of what the federal government should do in a multitude of areas of industry, legislation, human rights issues and federal financial issues.
When it comes to views of federal government responsibility, it can be said that there are two main school of thought. On the one hand, there are those that believe that the federal government’s primary responsibility is to the people of the nation. The differences arise when there is discussion about how much and which types of support the federal government should be required to provide to its citizens.
As many people generalize, the democratic and libertarian parties tend to work toward and support increased welfare and public support programs, whereas the conservative politicians tend to argue on the side that says the federal government spends too much of the nation’s resources on public welfare.
Though, as with any topic of debate, both sides have their merit, it becomes a clearer picture when faced with figures of how much of the nation’s resources were spent on war and industry as opposed to public welfare. The United States spends the vast majority of its money on military operations and weapons. A fraction of federal funds go toward the public education system, which continues to decline when compared to worldwide education standards. This is merely a pleasant side effect of stealing from the education of our youth, that only results in a population that is too ignorant to know how they are being taken advantage of.
Most people in the U.S. today do not realize it, but there has been a drastic decrease in the People’s organization and efforts that is leading to more exploitation of workers and human rights violations than since the depression. The forty hour work week, minimum wage and overtime laws are all due to the organization of the People into worker unions. As these unions and grassroots organizations dry up, the corporaions take advantage of the workers. With no one to argue for the rights of the workers, this is a natural result.
People existed long before federal government and existed in tribal communities. It is a modern myth that people require a centralized government or else all chaos and anarchy would break out. In fact, before the dawn of modern agriculture, completely different tribes of people coexisted successfully because of their extreme differences and their common stance that any other tribes government or practices was none of their concern. Each tribe left others alone to decide their own forms of government, legislation and the like.
Only within the last couple thousand years has the world’s culture melded into just that: a world culture. Basically, this new culture is the first throughout human history to take it upon themselves to try to convert every nation or individual that is not a part of the culture to join up. The ones that refuse to take part in federal government and the like are slowly starved of resources until they can no longer afford to resist.
So it seems obvious to me that since we have a federal government in place and so many people to govern, that the main responsibility of the federal government it to serve the People and provide for their needs in reciprocation for all the work and lives the People pay to the federal government.
