It’s your life and you should live it the way you want to. Part of living your life the way you want to is knowing what you want out of life. Knowing what you want out of life means you need to have goals. Learn how to set goals and obtain them.
Being able to set goals for your life path is an empowering experience that puts you in control of your destiny. Goals move you forward step by step. Goals aren’t set in stone. Over time they may change, you should re-evaluate them regularly. Goal setting is your map to where you want to go with you live. Setting your goals is the first step in obtaining them.
There are many techniques that can be used to set goals. Which ever method you choose to use doesn’t matter. Start by setting short term goals, then add your long term goals. Your short term goals should be the stepping stones to reach your long term goals. They are what will keep you focused and on track. As you accomplish your goals you should continue to add new goals. Remember these goals will take you from tomorrow through until death at a ripe old age. Goals will help you make the most out of your time on earth.
Your goals should be clearly defined so that you can measure your achievements and take pride in your accomplishments. As you set and achieve goals you will find your self confidence soars and you will begin to believe that no goal is unobtainable.
There are different levels of goal setting. First you need to decide what you want to accomplish with your life and what large goals or milestones you want to achieve. Then you need to break these major goals into smaller goals that must be reached before you can achieve your milestone goals. Once you’ve done this you can begin to work towards achieving your goals.
Life time goals or milestone goals set the tone for everything else that happens in your life including the decisions you will make. You should set life time goals in several areas such as career, family, financial, education, and pleasure. You can also set life time goals relating to your attitude, your artistic goals, and your contributions to society.
Once you’ve determined your goals you need to prioritize them with one being the most important. You can reprioritize them until you are sure you’ve got them in the order you want. Make sure your goals are your goals. Not the goals that your spouse wants you to achieve, not the goals that your parents want you to achieve. Just what you want to achieve!
Next you need to have a daily to do list that contains daily goals that work towards your achievement of your life time goals. Review your goals on a regular basis and don’t be afraid to change them or refocus them.
It is a proven fact that writing down your goals makes you more likely to stick with them and achieve those goals. Reading your goals to yourself each and every day also increases your success rate.
Remember your goals should always be written as a positive statement and they should be precise. Your day to day goals should be small and easily achievable and each of these daily goals should work towards meeting your “big picture” or “milestone” goals. Make sure your goals are realistic and don’t set your goals so low that there is no challenge to achieving them. You should be proud and satisfied with each and every goal you accomplish.
Now that you know how to set goals and achieve them you are on your way to designing your life blueprint. So what are you waiting for?
