Many people flirt with the idea of writing an ebook, in fact 81%! But few ever follow through and make it a reality. The majority seem to get stuck in procrastination, perfectionism, self-doubt and confusion and they really don't know how to begin.
Getting started is often the biggest hurdle to overcome. Thankfully there are precise steps you can take to climb out of the rut and bring your dream to life. Here are a few suggestions to help you with that.
1. Visualize Yourself as a Published Author.
Before you can manifest anything in your life it must first appear as a thought, idea or image, so picture yourself with your completed ebook and get comfortable with the idea of being a first-time writer. Let it soak in!
As you begin to accept the possibility, the idea will become less foreign to you and more familiar, and your mind will start hunting for ways to help you materialize your objective.
2. Take the Tingle/Rage Test.
This is a simple exercise that is fun to do and will reveal some interesting insights about yourself. I learned this from Kim Castle of Why Brand U. Take a sheet of paper and draw a perpendicular line down the middle. At the top of the left column write the word "Tingle" and on the corresponding side write the word "Rage".
Next, in the appropriate column list all the things that make you happy and those that make you angry. Just jot down what comes to your mind right off the top of your head. You can do it at one sitting if you like or return to it at different times.
3. Write Down Your Ultimate Dream
If money were no object, what is the single most important dream you would love to achieve? Don't concern yourself with how you would make it happen, just write down what that dream would be. There may be a lot of other people who share a similar dream and this could be a great area to explore.
These three simple exercises are basically different approaches to uncovering things you are passionate about. Pare the list down to a few that are more important to you than the others, and then match them to the skill set you have to see which ones work well together.
Before you start writing, analyze each and every idea that you come up with. Do the research first so you can make an informed decision, and then let the data dictate whether or not there is a strong enough market to make your idea viable. Then go for it!
